Shrink fitting has been used for many years as an elegant joining method. Generally found where wheels and rolls are joined to shafts this method can be both cost effective and mechanically superior to parts machined from solid.

The process involves machining to include an interference fit. Heating and/or cooling the respective parts prior to assembling and then allowing a return to room temperature.
